Anette Olzon is the lead singer of the Finnish fairytale metalband Nightwish. Resident in Helsingborg, with a career based in Helsinki, she has recently begun to know Stockholm.
Where and how do you live now?
- We recently sold the house and moved in the middle of Helsingborg in a large loft.
Why have you chosen not to live in Stockholm?
- I have not chosen it, but I grew up in Skåne. But now, I have a fiancé who’s originally from Stockholm and I have fallen in love with the city. An apartment in Stockholm is in the plans.
What do people talk about Stockholm down where you live?
- Unfortunately, Stockholmers have a worse reputation than the city of Stockholm.
Is it a bad thing to not to live in Stockholm when you think about your career? Being the Nightwish singer, does that have importance?
- It is not so big problem to live far from Stockholm, for my part, I have my basis with the band in Helsinki. I fly to Finland for a little over an hour so it’s not far. I can imagine that living in Stockholm is an advantage if you want to live the celebrity life more than I.
How was the news about you being the new Nightwish singer received in your home town?
- There was no parade - but perhaps in the future? Just joking, our local paper follows my career every now and then which is great. And in my little village outside Helsingborg where I lived until a few weeks ago, I got to talk to some fans and the school kids were screaming after me sometimes.
Something you absolutely don’t want to miss when you are in Stockholm?
- Pub-house.
How do you experience the typical Stockholmer?
- Before I started traveling a lot to Stockholm, I had a rather negative image of them, but now that I have seen so many different neighborhoods and people, my image has changed. I like especially the people in the Southern part of the city, the clothing style is a bit more relaxed and creative and as a musician I feel best there.
Who is Stockholm for you?
- Lasse Berghagen is Stockholm for me.
What do you feel when your train arrives at central Stockholm?
- Expectation.
